TfL pleasantly surprises me

The Oyster card I got for riding the tube and buses has been brilliant: no more queuing for tickets, no more crumpled travelcards, and it’s cheaper. There’s even an auto-topup feature I’ve enabled, that when the balance on the card goes below £5, it auto-debits from my bank account to top it up again, so I don’t even need to worry about queuing or going online to recharge it.

An extra benefit: it seems that by registering for the Oyster card, Transport for London will let me know about things that might affect my journeys. I just got an email warning me that the Central Line will be down for engineering work between Marble Arch and Ealing Broadway (my local station) this weekend. That’s inconvenient, but it sure is convenient knowing about it in advance of making my weekend plans.
