Sydney Festival 2011 begins
9 January 2011Yesterday was the start of the Sydney Festival, that annual month-long citywide celebration of the arts.
First night is always free. It was a warm night, and we moved between Hyde Park and Martin Place to see some of the musical acts.
London’s Kitty, Daisy & Lewis were a lot of fun, with their rockabilly blues. Hanggai are Chinese folk-rock fusion, and seemed to be having a lot of fun. The Last Kinection had a Black Eyed Peas vibe,
but sounded better, less contrived. Last was some funky soul from The Dynamites with Charles Walker.
You can catch all these acts at other gigs around the city during the festival.
The whole festival vibe is great. People obviously aren’t partied out after the holidays, as the crowds were big. Thanks, Sydney, for putting on such great events. It’s one more thing that makes living here a lot of fun.
